SHARING EXPERIENCE
|
|
Lore Dickey is a shining example of the power of
visibility. A demonstration of how one person can impact an entire
community and provide a beacon of hope for others.
As soon as Lore moved to North Dakota he began making
his mark. He started Transitions: A Support Group for Transsexuals. The
group, a first for the Grand Forks community, provides support to
transgender people and their family.

TRAILBLAZER
|

Currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology,
Lore uses his education and inner strength as a platform to serve the
transgender community. His graduate dissertation focuses on the
effectiveness of FTM transgender support groups. The results of his
research were presented at the 2006 American Psychological Association
Conference. An amazing achievement so early in his graduate career.
Beyond research, Lore’s held numerous teaching sessions
educating colleagues on transgender issues. Equally important, Lore’s
visibility and “outness” on campus lends itself to educating by
example. His faculty mentors herald his accomplishments so early into
his graduate education. More profound is how each has commented on how
Lore’s presence in the Ph.D. program has personally touched each of
them. What they see in Lore is a future leader in transgender health.

“My work as a Psychologist will be reflective of my
identity as a FTM. I take a certain amount of responsibility in helping
to shape the direction of work with the transgender community.
